The Saint Helen Snow Packers snowmobile club is the oldest and largest snowmobile club located in
Roscommon County Michigan. In the 1980's, it won recognition by the Michigan Snowmobile Association as
"Club of the Year". The Snowpackers are a Trail Grant holder from the MDNR and are responsible for 56 miles
of trails around the Saint Helen area.

The Snow Packers are active in supporting the local community, and as such members may be seen
participating in many of the local events year round. They participate in local parades and festivals, provide
an Annual Snowmobile Safety Class to the community in conjunction with St Helen Powersports. Hold an
Annual Snow Run in February and many other activities during the year.

In the fall, the biggest event is "Brushing and Signing" the snowmobile trails. In addition to the DNR required
signage, "911" emergency locator signs may be found on their trails. History has proven them to be helpful to
many of the hikers and hunters in the area by providing them with an easy means of locating where they are
in emergency situations. (In fact, more help has been provided for non-snowmobilers than has been found
necessary for snowmobilers). These Emergency locator signs, in Roscommon County, were first installed on
the Snow Packers trail system, and subsequently installed by neighboring clubs on the trails in the rest of the
county.

During the summer months, in addition to preparing for the fall trail work, the club holds an annual "Kids
Fishing Day" providing a way for the local children to participate in a fun day of fishing on Lake St Helen. An
annual barbeque is also held in late summer (In the past referred to as the Pig Roast.)

Many different methods of raising funds to support all of the activities are also ongoing during the year, such
as collecting bottles & cans, Annual Garage Sale from the Groomer Barn, sales of the MSA Raffle Tickets and
other event activities.

An Annual Trip to Yellowstone (the Snow Packers "Yellowstone Adventure") was started in 2005, with the first
trip taking place in February 2006. Basically, this trip accounts for 2 days of riding within "Yellowstone
National Park" and 2 days of riding in the mountains surrounding West Yellowstone, Montana. For the first trip
there were 16 participants, and for the 2007 event 18 people have signed up. A minimum of 15 is required to
obtain a discount for the adventure. Participation in the trip has been available to members of other clubs
belonging to the Heart of the North Snowmobile Council, with participants from the Rosco Higgins Trail
Cruisers and Ogemaw Hills Snowmobile Club taking advantage of the prep work done by the Snow Packers.
Check out the "Yellowstone Page" for more info.
